Before you go looking for the installation file you need to be clear on the name of the Office bundle you are looking for. Office Product Keys are bundle specific, so getting the wrong installation file will do you no good.

Wkipedia is a good source:. Find a friend new or old who has the right CD and is willing to lend you the CD. Unlike the very “old” DOS days when there was a signature file on the floppy, there is nothing unique on the CD to identify it.

The uniqueness is provided via the Product key you use to activate it. Ask at work if they have an installation CD you can borrow. There are often old disks “hiding” in dark corners of storage rooms. Try to find a local “PC Computer Club”. There is almost certainly a geek or three with disks you could borrow. Find a small local computer store or repair business.

They often have old versions of software because they are still supporting customers using them. At the small repair business they may have old computers that customers had upgraded from that include OEM Office that you could now use. You could buy it online. If you can’t, does the disk have it? When installing Office using an “Upgrade” disk, you can install directly from the disk, ie or “upgrade”, but at some point in the install process it will ask for “proof” of an “upgrade from” or words to that effect version.

At that point you remove the current CD from the drive and insert the FP installation disk from an earlier version to prove that you have the right to do an “upgrade” installation. If you don’t have the product key, as long as you have a HD that had it installed and activated on AND has not had Windows re-installed, Then you need the installation file.
