I have also repeated this step on Catalina but maybe you do not need that anymore. First simply follow the instructions and execute the 10 lines of code in order without installing any other software. Or, you can give the full path of the IOAudioFamily.

I wound up getting things to work late last night. It was strange. My DAC stopped being recognized by my Mac. I finally wound up switching USB ports on the Mac and that did the trick.
No idea why it just stopped working. It happened to me once before but I just unplugged the cord a few times and plugged it back into the same port and it worked. Anyway, thanks yet again for all the advice and help!
